Membership
Supporter
Club membership has started to pick up after our recruitment drive at
the home game against the Demons. We
now have 45 members, which puts us on target for 100 members in our
first year, which would be fantastic.
We would like to welcome the following families to our Club;
Roger, Desi, Elana and Kaila Falk and Charlie, Anna, Carly and Renee De
Cicco.
We
all know of other people who follow Port Adelaide, we need them as
members. Once we have a
bigger membership base, the easier it will be to attract sponsors,
organise bigger functions and then the more we can give back to the
Football Club.

Hawthorn Trip
Karen
and I set out early Saturday morning for Melbourne to see the Power v
Hawthorn clash at the MCG.
We
flew out at 9am and were greeted at Melbourne airport by the Mills
Family and Co who had driven overnight in their “Bus”.
From there we dropped off our bags at the Victoria Hotel in
Little Collins Street and then headed off to factory outlet stores
including club sponsor Nike where we secured a few bargains before
making our way to the ‘G’.
Once
arriving at the ‘G’ we headed to the Ponsford Stand where fellow
Power supporters had gathered on mass.
Around the ground it was clear a lot of other Power fans had made
the trip, as there was plenty of teal, black and white amongst the
crowd.
Prior
to the game I was lucky enough to get to hold the banner for the lads to
run through which as a great thrill.
Being on the ground when the players ran out is a moment I will
never forget.
The
game itself provided supporters with a few highlights including Kane
Cornes' debut, Matt Primus’s miraculous recovery from a knee injury to
provide inspirational leadership and Gavin Wanganeen's goal from another
seemingly impossible position. We overcame Hawthorns flooding tactics to still register 17
goals. At the end of the
game it was fantastic to hear the club song ring out around the ‘G’
with supporters in full chorus in readiness for September.
After
the game we all headed to Bells Hotel, which was packed.
The venue wasn’t big enough for all who had travelled over for
this game but we managed to squeeze in and maintain consciousness in the
sweltering conditions until Packo and Rob Snowdon completed their
speeches. We stayed on for a meal, which was great value.
The size and quality of all the meals were superb.
After a night of revelling we headed back to our hotel, which was
within walking distance to the ‘G’, Bell’s and the Casino.
Up
early the next day we headed to the markets that plenty of other Power
supporters also had on their itinerary.
I lost count of the amount of Power jumpers, caps etc we saw that
day.
We
headed back to Adelaide that evening exhausted but satisfied we had
secured second position on the AFL ladder.

In Short
Softie
of the Month goes to assistant coach Geoff Morris spotted on the Manly
Ferry who couldn’t hack the cold conditions on the top deck and moved
to the warmer confines on the lower level.
Just
a hint for the jetsetters following the Power.
Check your flight time on your return.
A certain 7 members almost missed their flight on the way back
from Sydney, after their flight had been brought forward 1 hour, lucky
they got to the airport early enough.
The carrier was the unofficial airline of the AFL.

Monthly Meetings
As
the Supporter Club is very new, it is very important to get input by all
members. Everyone can have
a big say on how we should be run, what functions we can organise, plan
interstate trips and how we can help the players and the Football Club.
We need your ideas. In
setting up the Club we have had help from fellow Power Supporter Clubs
from interstate, hopefully one day we can return the favour.
They are all fanatical Power supporters just like us and have
very well run supporter clubs who make everyone feel very welcome when
we travel interstate. After all we all share the common goal, 100% Pure Power.
So
we ask all members to try to get to a meeting which is held upstairs of
the Port Club, 7.30pm, the first Wednesday of each month.
So far we have had great input from the following people; Tina
Snowdon (Treasurer), Kerrie Grindley (Secretary), Patricia Cox, Glenda
Crilly, Mark Emes, Karen Grindley, Shaun Breen (all committee), Helen
Kelly, Graham Oliver; Mark Beazleigh and Damian Stevens.
We
all hope to see some new faces on the 4th of July.
