Match Report |
Once again it was off to Adelaide Oval for a Friday night game.
A great place for Footy - but only if you win!!! Yet again it
didn't happen against some pretty ordinary
opposition (they did only kick 6 goals to 8 after quarter time).
But first to the Ressies who continue to play with passion which is in stark contrast to the Seniors (or most of them)
and gave Westies a 76 point hiding. Shane Ellen looked good with his seven goals, Robbo continued on, Greeny looked rock solid and many others played well (I've
concentrated on the "fringe" senior players) but more noticeable was the
absence of so many - how do Leys, Phillipou,
McGuinness, Lockwood, Harwood, Brown and Beinke fit into your team for starters and throw in Julian Waite for good
measure. Not excuses but it does highlight HALF of the
problem - the other half has a bit to do with attitude I believe.!!!!!
The best that can be said for the Main game is that the 2nd quarter was as good as we have played this year
(6 goals to 1) but this was followed by a dismal
3rd. We were outscored 1 goal to 5 and although the last was a nothing quarter (we did kick
2.3 to 0.4) the obvious damage was done in that
3rd quarter tame effort.
To finish on a brighter note the better players as I saw them were the Ilett boys,
particularly Jared, Corey, Fiegs, Ebo for his first (until he took a knock) and Meady who was an absolute standout and pivotal to the 2nd quarter comeback when thrown into
ruck.
For those who like to follow the Power boys Dom Cassisi played a pretty good game for West but I reckon more than 1 played "farewell" games for West (what price Marsh to get delisted
- but who cares !!)
P.S. To the load mouthed pea brained supporter who cheered and called for a shovel when Tommy Carr went down
- WE DONT DO THAT IN THIS COUNTRY SO ON YOUR BIKE TO SOMEWHERE THAT WANTS YOU
- IT AINT HERE!!!.
And a special P.S. to all of you who think that intimidatory tactics like having 3 or 4 players belt
into a "kid' on the ground will win finals for you
- think again West. Didn't you try that some years ago against North and
didn't you LOSE???? No one should know more than your coach!!
Well on to next week and beyond for what should be a salvage operation particularly for those senior players who have tried the patience of the dedicated supporter this season.
Please note:
The Maggies are holding a Grand Final Overload afternoon on Sunday 11th August at the Port Club at
12 noon. Pie and pastie lunch etc. with past premiership players attending so if you are like me and love to soak up history and relive it (and pass it on to your kids)
this is a great opportunity. Many of these types of functions are perhaps out of reach for many but at $16.50 per adult and $40 per family of four this promises to be a great "good value" day.
Bookings at the club Ph: 8241 0141.
Bye till next week Lynton.
